About me
I have been teaching elementary physical education and health at Irving Elementary for 17 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in physical education and a master of science degree in physical education, health, and human performance. Prior to teaching, I was a dental assistant for 15 years and worked for six years as the executive assistant at The Independent Living Center, Inc. in Joplin. I have taught Kindermusic, classical ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, and coached dance team, cheerleading, and track. I am a recipient of the MSSU Student of the Year Award in kinesiology and the MOSHAPE Dr. James Herauf Young Professional Award. I have developed, revised, and implemented curriculum for Joplin Schools and serve as my elementary department lead as well as on our school site council, the Joplin Schools Physical Education and Health Committee and the Joplin Schools District Wellness Committee. I also serve at the state level on the MOSHAPE Advocacy Committee and the MOSHAPE Awards Committee. I design imaginative daily lessons, produce two field days per year, and have sponsored numerous clubs and extra-curricular activities over the years. In addition to teaching, I currently complete needs assessments for adults with disabilities living independently in their own homes. I am married with a daughter age 30 and a son and daughter-in-law ages 24. I am enjoying this season of life with my family, am active in my church, and spend as much time as I can outdoors.
