Joplin Connect-Early Childhood/Elementary
Friday March 7, 2025 1:20pm - 2:00pm CST
This session will provide an overview of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and its uses in the classroom setting.  The presenters are Speech-Language Pathologists who want to partner with you to provide the best communication possible between you and your students.   If you have ever thought, "I have a student in my classroom has an AAC device, but I'm not sure of my role", then this course is for you!  All teachers know that just because a student may be nonverbal, he or she still has lots to say.

Objectives of the course:
1.  Participants will leave with a clear understanding of what AAC includes from "low tech" to "high tech".
2.  Participants will understand their role in recommending, trialing, and using obtained AAC in the classroom whether it be in regular or special education settings.
3.  Participants will understand why AAC is important for expressing basic wants and needs, social interactions with peers, comment in class, answer questions, and access the curriculum.

This course makes AAC use easy!  You will learn to help your students with AAC without a lot of extra work.  Although each type of AAC is different, you will walk away with confidence that you can implement AAC use immediately!
